Apr. 1st, 2008 02:31 pmBodies are funny things. For most of my life, I was violently allergic to hops. More specifically, I'm allergic to isohumulone - an acid in hops. Over the course of the last year or so, I've been drinking dopplebocks and Blue Moon and other low IBU beers and have come to enjoy them. During that time I've also noticed that my allergy to hops in general has declined.
On the flip side, about 2 years ago outta nowhere, I developed an intolerance to chocolate. Regardless of other caffeine, sleep, alternate allergens, whatever, eating a little bit of chocolate will give me great big jackhammer heart arrhythmias. A few months ago, I was talking to my brother who started telling the story that in his late 40's, he had the same thing start to happen, but he gets migraines. The theobromine is probably the culprit, but I'm not sure where to get straight theobromine to test this thesis.
