Mar. 4th, 2008 09:29 amI've been shopping around for a BJJ instructor down here and have some odd choices. One place I went to is very reputable, with a world class instructor. (I won't name names for reasons you'll soon read about.) The people I talked with gave off all the right vibes and there's no doubt that I'll pretty much learn the best that BJJ has to offer. The problem? It's way out of the way from either work or home, and frankly, the gym smells. Not like any old gym, it SMELLS. It was a warm day and they had the front and back door open and I smelled the place 20 feet out into the parking lot. I truely have never been in a gym or locker room that ever smelled that bad. I'm no delicate creature, but the place had me gagging. For the various MMA people on my list, is this common - just part of the culture?
The other place is just round the corner from my house, inexpensive, only has class 1x/week, and likely doesn't have the quality teachers as choice A. On the other hand, since I'm never going to go deep into it, I'm not sure how much I'm writing off....
